Project Overview
The CH4SCOUT project, funded by the EUROSTAR program, aims at developing a drone-based system for methane measurements, detection of pollution sources, 3D mapping and user-friendly visualization. With these solutions we address critical environmental challenges posed by methane emissions, in order to meet the EU Methane Regulation and global sustainability goals. The CH4SCOUT solution also supports local government, municipalities, and industries like oil and gas, waste management and agriculture by providing a reliable and cost-effective measurement solution.
Current Progress
As the CH4SCOUT project passed the 1-year mark, SMM INVEST and SEARCH-LAB proudly announce the following achievements as part of the experimental model design and development:
- Two versions of the sensor box, integrating CH4, RH, temperature and atmospheric pressure sensors, airflow regulation, GSM capabilities and edge data processing
- A drone used as a payload carrier for stable, extended, and precise flight operations
- Parachute recovery system for safe operation
- Integration with third party drones as DJI 350RTK for autonomous emission source scouting missions
- CH4SCOUT Cloud infrastructure for data processing and visualization
Why CH4SCOUT Matters
Monitoring the concentration of methane, which is a potent greenhouse gas, is a crucial task as it significantly contributes to climate change. By accurate measurements CH4SCOUT can detect and map emissions, and can provide industries and policymakers with actionable insights to reduce environmental burden, improve operational safety and comply with relevant regulations.
